General Information
What? The Gorgeous Possum is a two day adventure race in a stage format.

On day 1, after a catered breakfast, racers will take a bus to the starting location with their mountain bikes. They will then make their way back to Opossum Creek Retreat, mostly biking, but occasionally leaving their bikes to obtain checkpoints off in the forest. There may even be a short orienteering course along the way. The total distance will be 30-50 miles and will likely take 6-10 hours (you have 12 hours until dinner). Cabins and hot tubs will await you at the finish line and a catered meal will be served starting around 8pm.

On day 2, after a catered breakfast, racers will bike a short distance from Opossum Creek Retreat, and then leave their bikes for an extended trekking section of 10-20 miles. Racers will return to their bikes and follow a slightly different route back to Opossum Creek Cabins. Racers will likely take 6-10 hours to get all the checkpoints, and again you have 12 hours until dinner. Once again, hot tubs and a catered meal will be waiting.

The award ceremony will be after dinner on Saturday evening. Racers will then rest and relax at Opossum Creek Retreat for the evening. On Sunday, racers will get one last catered breakfast before departing for home before midday.

Where? The race course will be on both sides of the river in New River Gorge near Fayetteville, WV.
When? The race is during the peak leaf season on the weekend of 24-27 October 2019. Check-in will be on Thursday evening, October 24.
How Much? It is $1000 per team of two if you sign up by March 1st, 2019. Prices increase after that. At least one racer needs to pay a $100 deposit to reserve a spot for the team.
Racers who register after Sept 1st won't get any race apparel.
What's Included? Racers will get 3 nights lodging in cabins with hot tubs, 6 catered meals, awards, prizes, a fleece, finisher awards, camaraderie, and tons of fun! There may also be a massage therapist onsite (extra fee).
Who? Entry is limited to 25 teams of two (male, female, or coed). We expect the event will sell out early.
Why? We love promoting the sport of adventure racing, and this provides a soft introduction into multi-day adventure racing. It's also as much about the camaraderie, fun, and hanging out meeting new people as it is the race.
