Can I arrive late?
Yes. If you arrive on Thursday, you should get to Opossum Creek by 8:00pm (when maps get distributed) unless you make special arrangements with us.
How hilly is the course?
The race does take place in West Virginia - the Mountain State. With that said, a good bit of the course is flat to rolling hills. There are a few good climbs each day to get out of the Gorge and to get up to where the cabins are.
Can I bring a friend/guest?
It is a possiblitily to bring a friend/guest that doesn't want to race; however, we have limited accommodations for them. They may be sleeping on a cot, on a pull-out sofa, or in your bed. Additionally, there is a guest fee to stay in the cabins and partake of the meals and other ammenities. Please email us to discuss.
What is there for my friend/guest to do?
In addition to seeing the starts and finishes of the race, there are many hiking trails near Opossum Creek. There is also a zip line canopy tour right up the road. We are trying to organize a group rate for all racers and guests. There is also a large climbing area and of course, the New River - great for rafting, swimming, fishing, or just hanging out near it.
Can I just race for one of the two days?
That's up to you. The price is the same.
Is there a solo/relay/team option?
If we don't fill up, then we may allow solos. Otherwise, the race is limited to 25 teams of two (male, female, or coed). Please email us to discuss.
Will I have access to a bathroom/shower if I camp?
Yes. There will be showers and bathrooms (as well as a hot tub) available for campers. At present, there is no camping option for this event.
Can I not buy the meals and cook in the cabins?
No. You have to pay for the whole event. It's a package deal: race, cabins stay, and meals. The cabins all have full kitchens though, if you'd like to bring/cook some extra food.
Where did the watercolors of the Gorge come from?
The water colors were all painted by Jeanne Brenneman from Lewisburg, WV. You can get copies of your very own at her online store.
Can I bring my pet along with me?
Sorry. We prefer that you leave Fido at home.
Is alcohol allowed in/around the cabins?
Absolutely! We will have wine available with dinner and there will be some beer in the common fridge, but you may want to bring a bit of your own.
What is the cancellation policy?
Planning and implementing a three day event takes a fair amount of time and money. And many of the vendors require substantial upfront payments. Therefore, you will lose your $100 deposit if you choose not to come. If you've paid in full, we will refund you all but $100 up until August 1st. After that, no refund will be given. Of course, you are free to sell your entry to another racer.
Is there a time limit to finish?
The official cut-off for both days is 8:00pm (which is when dinner starts back at Opossum Creek Retreat). This gives teams 12 full hours to complete each day. There will be scoring penalties for arriving back late (as well as possibly going hungry if you are over 2 hours late).
